Scrapbook Layout: Sunshine

Hello crafty friends.  Thank you for stopping by for another scrapbook layout using my August Clique Kit.  This kit has been fun to work with because it features the Pink Paislee Citrus Bliss collection.  This is my forth layout using this kit.  I used a few of the patterned papers in the collection for this layout including the speciality vellum sheet with the gold foiled pineapples.  This vellum is just so beautiful, I was tempted to hoard it but thought if I use it just right for a layout, it would be utilized well.

For the first time in a long time i didn't use any mixed media for a layout.  This is so not like me recently.  I have always been able to add water coloring, stenciling, paint, stamps or something extra to a layout.  But this time, I went back to my classic paper only.  And I love that I did.

The picture is of my sister on her summer vacation to Mexico with her boyfriend and a few friends.  She sent this picture to me and I downloaded it to scrap.  I thought their expressions were funny along with the pineapple drink with a fruit face.  I love the palm tree leaves in the background and thought this collection could do this great picture justice.  Meet my younger sister, Lianna and her boyfriend Jose.

I tried to use the rule of thirds for this layout with the vellum sheet, Squeeze and Fancy patterned papers.  The die cuts, puffy stickers and tag are all from the Citrus Bliss collection.  The gold foil pineapple washi tape details are from Little B and the pineapple flair is exclusive to the Clique Kit.

I filmed a process video for this layout on my channel on YouTube: Life with Evi or I have provided the video here:

Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout: A day in Paradise

Hello my Clique Kit friends.  Thank you so much for stopping by to see my new layout using the August "Ambrosia" Clique Kit.  This kit has been one of my favorites due to the color scheme it embraces.  I have enjoyed using the featured Citrus Bliss Collection from Pink Paislee.  The pictures I used are of me and my doxie Zoe at the local soccer fields.  She loves to run freely off her leash when we are there.  The dress I am wearing is what inspired me and this month's kit went perfectly with these colors too.  I started off with using white card stock and my new Lindsay Stamp Gang Mists in Pop Rock Purple, Merry go round green and Rasberry Lemonade.  I used the "packaging" technique that so many of us use.  (In case you are unaware... grab plastic packaging from the stickers, or alphas and add the mists straight to it.  Then gently apply the plastic packaging with the liquid medium onto the cardstock and it creates this lovely watercolor wash without too much extra water to add.  I have a process video linked at the bottom, if you care to see this process in action).  I started with the green and let it dry and proceeded to the pink and then purple.  I made sure they were dry between applying them to make sure the colors did not mix and make brown on my page.  I also added a light layer or splatters using my Genesis Green Liquid acrylic paints from Daler.
The Flamingo acetate sheet that overlays the background is from the August paper add on.  The same affect can be achieved it the vellum sheet in the kit with the gold foil pineapples.  I am using that one on an upcoming layout.  The mint green "paradise" word was an exclusive piece in the kit this month, and I thought it went perfectly with this layout.
Clique kit included exclusive flair buttons and PL cards with the fruit images.  As you can see, I cut out all the fruit images and used them as die cuts.  The pear, pineapple, orange and watermelon slice are the ones I am referring too.  The colors worked well with my approach to the layout.  The yellow brad was apart of the Citrus Bliss collection as well with the kit.
The patterned papers are all from the Pink Paislee collection.  The last details are the tiny word stickers from Amy Tangerine Rise and Shine Collection that were from another kit.  I have been loving adding a bit of gold touches to my layouts with gold thread.  It almost reminds me of tinsel but I add it behind the matted photos in a few areas.  I need to add some journaling so I added a white tag behind a picture.  I used the Little B gold pineapple washi tape and added more Lindsay Stamp Gang Mist in Raspberry Lemonade to it and more gold thread to pull it out.  A nice hidden section of journaling for the page.  I matted the entire layout on yellow grid paper from the Heidi Swapp, Serendipity Collection, to add a touch more of yellow to the layout.
I love making process videos for your viewing please.  Take a moment to watch the packaging technique or any other tips on how to achieve this layout look.  If you want to subscribe to my YouTube Channel, watch it at 'Life with Evi'.

Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout: Go Dolphins!

I'm a NYC girl living in south Florida.  And I will always love my NY Giants but my fiancé is the die heart Miami Dolphins fan.  So in order to make us work, I had to drink the teal and orange Kool-Aid.  So in honor of the Dolphins I needed to scrap this picture of us during pre-season using my August Clique Kit.  This collection is Citrus Bliss from Pink Paislee and the orange of this patterned paper is called Hello and I used a banner stencil and my Dylusion Acrylic paints to achieve the team colors for this layout.

The orange was just the right shade with the tiniest pattern, not interfering with my plans for using a banner stencil.  The beauty of the Dylusion Acrylic paints is that they dry super fast and there is very little, if any, warping of the paper. The circle dies are a mixture from the die cut pack and using the patterned paper Sour and using my 1.5 inch circle punch.  The "smile" wood veneer is from Heidi Swapp Memory planner collection and the triplet frame is from crate paper Poolside collection.  The stamped impression of "Remember This" and "Documented" are from Kaiser Krafts and black embossing powder.
The circle stamsp are from Ali Edwards that I recently purchased.  They are great and versatile.  I finished this layout off with liquid pearls in a teal color that I added to the tip of the banners and sprinkled around and some gold sequins.  I filmed a process video for this layout as well:

Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout: Beautiful Perspective

Hello everyone, thank you for stopping by for another mixed media layout using my August Clique Kit.  I had fun enhancing the blues in the pictures into the background.  I started out with using Bloom by Pink Paisley from the Citrus Bliss collection.

I love my Dylusion acrylic paints an decided to use London Blue, vibrant turquoise and fresh lime with my new Heidi Swapp stencils.  The stencils came in a two pack with both these geometric triangle patterns.  I applied the paint with the Ranger circular blending tool.  This tool is fantastic at apply the Dylusion paint and I found that tip from Dyan Reaveley herself on her YouTube videos and it really does work like a charm.

The die cuts used were also apart of the Citrus Bliss collection.  I purchased the 3x4 cards from the Clique kit store that have fun words cut out.  I simply used my London Blue Dylusion acrylic paint to have the word stand out further.  I colored the Studio Calico wood veneer arrows with the same color.  And the acetate star is from Heidi Swapp's Hello Today collection, they were in my stash.

The Alphas are called Bliss my American Crafts and they truly are gold foiled.   And the gold foiled washi tape with the tiny pineapples is from Little B.  Now I made a mistake and accidently spelled "Perspective" incorrect during my video and a lovely subscriber pointed it out to me and I added the missing "C" to the layout.  Long words...its bound to happen.

My final touched were using my new Ali Edwards Stamps.  I used Staz-on ink in black and added text around the photo with the help of these stamps.  I absolutely love that they are tiny and can add a bit of detail to a layout.  The background acts like 6x6 patterned paper which I love.  I have a process video for this layout if you would like to watch.

Art Class with Dina Wakley

This past weekend I had the privilege of taking an art class at my near by scrapbook store in Lake Worth, Florida called Everything Scrapbook and Stamps.  This was not an ordinary art class, this was a mixed media art class taught by the wonderful Dina Wakley.  This class was titled "Creature Feature" because we were incorporating animals into our work.  I attended this class with about 15-20 other talented women from the surrounding neighborhood.  I had an absolute fantastic time at this class.  Not only did I learn new techniques by Dina herself demoing them, but it also allowed us to instantly try them for ourselves.  Dina has a great sense of humor and throughout the class she would tell funny stories of her family or interesting tales of how she learned from experimenting.  The facility was offering three different classes over the course of the weekend.  I was fortunate enough to as least attend one.

The class allowed us the use of all of Dina Wakley's paint and medium line available by Ranger.  That was the amazing part.  Her entire line of colors were at our disposal and all her mediums to play with.  We even got to play with Neocolor water soluble crayons and Stabilo "All" Pencils for our pages.  I have played in the past with both of these mediums, but never in the use and style has Dina showed us.  So I was appreciative of learning new ways to use art supplies I already am familiar with.   The Dina Wakley line also includes beautiful stencils, masks and stamps which were all there including all her new releases due to release at the end of the month.  You can see it used on the tag on the page on the left, its called Birds in Flight.  It comes with like 4-5 different flying birds.  I definitely pre-ordered all the stencils and one of her new stamp sets.  I was able to play with her Gel Medium for most of my work as well and did purchase a pot of that has well.  It really works different compared to others and applies tissue paper an book paper very flat without any wrinkles.  That was a huge plus for me.

She was gracious enough to sign my "Courage" cover that I had purchased months and months.  I loved her message, "art forever, housework never". But, I also purchased her Scribble Birds Stamp set from the store that day and asked for another autograph on my stamp set.  I couldn't help myself, I left so inspired and have been practicing everything I have learned.  Working with heavy body acrylic paints is rather new for me.  I usually would work with my fluid ones to cover my surface, but in the world of mixed media, this is not desirable.  In mixed media you want the ability to add layers of dimension to your work,  you want elements that peek through and others that do not.  Mixed media entails working with different forms of media or art supplies to experiment and see how they perform wet or dry or together.  Its a world I have found to simply play around and have fun.  There are no rules and no expectations.  Your work becomes pure serendipity.
I will definitely want to take classes again with her in the future.  She is actually coming to Florida again with Dyan Reaveley, another artist from Ranger and the creator of the Dylusions line.  Overall, an amazing experience that I will remember forever.  Can't wait to continue playing in my art journal.

Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout: Meet Ms. Cute

Hello Crafty friends!! I have another layout of my sweet little doxie, Zoe, lounging on my pillow that I simply had to scrap.  I believe this was my last layout using the July Clique Kit.  I was able to use the branding stripes and my scraps for this layout.

I started off with the wood grain background paper from Chickaniddy 365 collection named Weekend Wonders.  The stencil is by Americana named Segmented Swirls that I recently picked up from Michael's craft store.  (Don't forget to use a coupon on it like I did.)  I choose to use my Dylusion Acrylic Paints with this stencil and my Ranger blending tool.  Bubblegum pink, squeezed orange and lemon zest were used on this layout.

Since I used pink, orange, and yellow I decided to stay with these colors when using my scraps and branding stripes.  That way the layout looks cohesive.  All the scraps are from the Chickaniddy 365 collection, also used on the previous layouts.

The journaling card is a 4x4 from Seven Papers from Studio Calico.  The color foil phrase is from Amy Tangerine Rise and Shine collection from my stash and the 'MS' letters in the title are used from the Chickaniddy 365 collection as well.  The wood veneer is from the kit and the brad is from the same 365 collection.

Last but not least, the goil detail on the background was done using the Faber Castel Texture Gems in gold.  These remind me of liquid pearls.  They are able to keep there dimension and almost look like enamel dots.  I also have the coordinating process video for this layout on my channel, Life with Evi. Or I have provided the video here:

Las Vegas Mini Album

Hello my crafty friends, I have an exciting mini album to share with you.  As you may or may not know, I recently celebrated my birthday weekend in Las Vegas this year.  I have never been to Las Vegas before and planned all five days with the help of Groupon.  lol.  We have a few friends that live out there but I definitely wanted to do a bunch of touristy things.  Now the preparation for this trip was time consuming but it all paid off nicely while we were there.  Now, if you also do not know, it also turned into my engagement weekend.  OMG!! Yes, it did and he did such an amazing job surprising me with this momentous moment in our lives.  So, in order to do this trip justice I decided to make a mini album.  Ten pages in my 12x12 Project life album would have not have been enough.

I kept everything for memorabilia...ticket stubs, business cards, magazine clippings and took hundreds of photos.    I purchased a 'Selfie stick' for this trip as well.  This little invention is to thank for all our couple shots.  I did not have to ask anyone to take our picture.  lol  If you do not own a selfie stick, I would highly recommend one.

I used Design 3 for most of the pocket page layouts which included the 2 3x4 pockets and one 4x6.  The patterned paper is from Heidi Swapp Favorite things collection that were used as pages.  I did some pages in pocket pages and others like a Smash book.  Ticket stubs were kept and simply punched holes into the cardstock.  The stamps used throughout were from Heidi Swapp as well.  A few project life cards from Me and My Big Ideas.

I purchased post cards on my trip to add to the pocket pages.  And my dearest Miguel did fill out a simple card and added his own journaling so that he was included in remembering our fantastic trip.  His proposal was a complete surprise and love how he did it on top of the Stratosphere Hotel looking out on the strip.  I was totally crying and a mess.  I didnt want to walk in my heels prior to going to the concert and wore flip flops.  And my statement necklace broke as i removed my purse to hug and kiss him after he proposed.  But that is so me and the klutzy moves.  Lol....

I will remember our trip to Las Vegas forever and love that our friends and family can look through the mini album and see what fun we had.  I love the idea too that my future kids can look through it too and know how daddy proposed to mommy.  Makes my heart smile.

I did a flip through video on my channel on YouTube: Life with Evi.  Please take a 15 minutes to watch and please subscribe.

Love,
EVI
