Today's layout is for The Ink Road. I have all these wonderful pictures from my Abuelita's 86th birthday party from last weekend. I just love family gatherings. I also have been loving printing my photos in black and white so that I do not have any restrictions on what I do with my layout because it will not compete. I started this layout by cutting out the florals in the Floral Tapestry paper from the Jen Hadfield Cottage Living collection. I even cut out the tiny yellow flowers from the paper as well. The colors for this layout are the corals, mints, a pop of yellow and gray.
I was going to use a gray patterned paper from the same collection but I wanted the gray to be more subtle, so I used the Let's Party patterned paper from the Fine and Dandy Collection by Dear Lizzy.
Rounded Trellis was used in a horizontal formation with Dotted Blossoms for the second layering piece. I matted my photo with the coral one again.
My title is a wood veneer from the Hello Love collection and I first primed it with gesso to give it a base coat because I knew I wanted to also paint it coral. I first tried Distress stain in Abandoned Coral, but it dried too light. I then applied the same color as Ink and this time I loved the color pay off. To tie in the floral paper again in the layout I cut two thin strips and adhered them to the top and bottom of the layout to ground it.
No layout for me is complete without some mixed media. So I gessoed the edges of the coral and mint paper and blurred out the edges. I went in with the "packaging" technique and did a light wash of Abandoned Coral and Cracked Pistachio Distress Strays to add a messy look to the layout. I did not go that crazy with the mixed media but added enough for the effect of it. The final result is lovely. I shared my layout with my family and everyone loved it.
