Scrapbook Expo Pocket Page Layout// Katty and I Vlog and Haul

Happy National Scrapbook Day!  On the actual day (May 6th) Katty and I attended the Scrapbook Expo in Orlando Florida.  We were able to meet Wendy Vecchi from Ranger and took a class with the wonderful and inspiring Becky Higgins, creator of Project Life.  We took a bus ride up to the event so that we did not have to drive.

The Expo itself is a crafters dream haven and one can easily get carried away if you do not give yourself a budget.  We met Wendy Vecchi first at a booth as she demoed the new Ranger Distress Oxide ink pads.  She signed the demo tag she made for us and I tucked it into the pocket with her photo.  I used a product card for the mat.  I purchased three different colors because i was impressed by the products.

We took a Project Life class with the lovely Becky Higgins and received all sorts of PL goodies.  I took one PL card out for her to sign for me and included it in this spread.  I also kept the ticket from the class and stuck it into a pocket for save keeping.

I used my new Distress Oxide ink pads to color in the Kaiser Craft card with the blues and greens.  The other cards are featuring the Pink Fresh Studio 'Dream On' collection.

We had such a wonderful time together and we did do a little Vlogging for our subscribers.  Take a look, video linked below.

We also did a bit of shopping.  Check out my Haul video below as well.

Beautiful Smiles// Pretty Patterned Paper Playground

The Pretty Patterned Paper Playground is a series Katty Miranda and I have started together.  We live an hour apart from each other so we like to get together and scrap.  We made a Facebook group for everyone to come and share their work.  For this layout we wanted to scrap lift the lovely Missy Whiden on YouTube.  This technique was fun and easy to do for a "control" mixed media effect.  This technique is wonderful for those scrappers just starting out in mixed media.  This was Missy's layout:

She did this layout a while ago on her channel.  She, and I, started out with a scrap piece of card stock and randomly started adding mists, splatters, inks and paints.  The randomness lets you achieve color blending and effects that cannot be achieved without intuitive nature of this technique.  I let layers dry before adding more on top.  I even went in with stamps with stitching effects and music notes for added interest to the paper.  When this scrap of paper with all your colors was dried, simply use a circle punch and cut it up.  To me, the paper resembled the galaxy with stars.

I arranged them in the exact same way as she did.  I added strips of patterned paper to the side of the layout like book ends.  I added black round dies from an old Heidi Swapp collection in my stash with some pop dots.  The Tim Holtz conversation tiny word stickers were also added from my stash.

I scrapped a picture I took with my mom when she came over to my coast of Florida and had tickets to see Kinky Boots.  At the event, they had a step and repeat carpet area and was able to take a selfie with my mom.  It is a lovely memory to hold onto.  Here is my process video so that you can watch this technique being done.  Hope you enjoy.

Pretty Patterned Paper Playground// Beautiful Smiles

Hello lovely ladies of scrapbook land!  Katty and I have our second episode of Pretty Patterned Paper Playground for you today.  For our challenge this week, we wanted to scrap-lift a lovely Missy Whidden layout. It was a great layout to do "controlled" mix media".  I would encourage anyone who want to try mix media out, to begin like this.  I started off with two random scrap pieces of paper that I primed with white gesso.  I then went randomly in with mists galore; layer upon layer.  I did one with all the pinks, reds and oranges and the other with the blues and greens.

Of course no mix media is complete without some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold.  I then used a 1.5" circle punch and randomly laid them out with 4 rows of 7 circles.  So I made sure I had 14 of the pink ones and 14 of the green ones.  For this portion I am a stickler for, even parts.
I am scrapping a recent picture of my mother and I at a Broadway musical "Kinky Boots" that came to Fort Lauderdale.  It was a great show and of course I bought along my selfie stick for a moment like this.  The title "beautiful" is from the Maggie Holmes Shine collection sticker sheet and the other letters are from my stash.
I added a few black circle stickers from a MAMBI sticker sheet and Heidi Swapp.  I am loving the tiny word stickers from Tim Holtz as well.   Missy is a true inspiration and in her layout as well she did her journaling along the left vertical side which is a nice detail.  Missy also stitched through her circles with black thread.  I do not have a sewing machine but I do have clear stamps that have a stitching design to them, so I stamped stitches with Black Staz-on ink on my circles.  I always like adding black ink splatters at the end of my design.
We took over each others YouTube channel, so my video is linked above on her channel and her version is on my channel.  Please watch both if you have the time.  I hope you enjoy the challenge and join us on our Facebook group: Pretty Patterned Paper Playground.

Thank you,
Evi

Pretty Patterned Paper Playground Challenge #1

Hello crafty ladies!  We are together for some creative goodness with our new series.  Katty Miranda, of +Katty Miranda and @kattymiranda on IG, lives in south Florida as well and somehow we eventually figured out we live close to each other.  So what do scrappers do as a meet and greet...we went to a crop together.  We spent all day talking and scrapping and thought we should get together and do a fun series for our subscribers.  So that is exactly what we did.  We decided we wanted our series to be interactive and made a coordinating Facebook group to play along with us in our Playground.  We will post our mood board for the month on the FB group page and we limited our supplies to 5 items.  We choose the Hello Love collection from Crate Paper, mists, paints, stencils and ephemera.  The ongoing challenge will always be to create our own pretty patterned background and we have set the chanllenge to 15 minutes.

OMG ladies!!!  I have an IRL (In Real Life) scrapbook buddy/ YouTuber living close by.  I have been a subbie to Katty Miranda on YT and IG for months now.  And we only recently figured out we actually A. Live in the same state and B. Live about an hour away from each other.  How amazing is that.  She was gracious enough to invite me to a Crop down in Miami that she RSVPed for.  Of course I went and of course we got along just perfectly.  And we scrapbookers, we take pictures, so out came the selfie stick and a few photos were taken in remembrance   LOL.  She has her layout and process video here too.
So I started out with white American Crafts card stock and used a recent Heidi Swapp Stencil with the plus sign and texture paste on the background.  I did not want to add color to the paste, I simply wanted the texture to the layout.  I then cut stripes of patterned paper from the Amelia collection from Studio Calico and black and white pieces from my stash.  The decorative element came with the use of crape paper that was laying around.  I used my ATG and created pleats with the crape paper and it made a ruffle edge to the layout.  I absolutely love how this turned out.  Will have to do this again.
The few bit and pieces of ephemera are from Heidi Swapp 'Favorite things' collection from my stash as well.  I had the red glitter paper in my stash as well and add hot pink thread for a touch of messy.  The alphas are from My Minds Eye Niche collection.
I finished off the layout with some black ink splatters and was satisfied with the turnout.  Katy and I are trying to get a series going in the new year where we can get together and scrap our little hearts out together, and post fun videos for all our subscribers.  I can't wait for us to brain storm together.  If you want to see how to create the ruffle edge please watch my process video I have provided.
